A Switzerland-based company on 9 November 2012 launched an insecticidal bed net and community water filter in the Patna district of Bihar to fight against diseases like Dengue, Malaria and Diarrhoea.
The community water filter launched had a capacity to filter 100 lakh litres. The company is going to have a talk with the state government for support in popularising the items in Bihar. Subsequently, the products would be placed in the open market for sale.
The long-lasting insecticidal bed nets are considered by experts as one of the best defences against vector-borne diseases like dengue and malaria that claim several lives.
As per the company official the ready-to-use bed net is easy to hang and requires no repeat intervention for a period of at least three years.
The basic purpose of launch was to curb the menace of spreading Dengue in Bihar where more than 50 people were diagnosed with dengue this year across Bihar. Around 285 of these cases were confirmed in the capital city of Patna alone since the outbreak of the disease in September 2012.
