Highlights of Economic Survey 2009-10

Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee Thursday 25 Februar, 2010 tabled a cautious but optimistic Economic Survey 2009-10 in Parliament, which predicted 7.2 percent growth for the current fiscal and a full recovery in 2011-12, while remaining concerned over inflation and fiscal deficit.

The Survey said Indian economy is well on a recovery track and is expected to expand by 8.25-8.75 percent in 2010-11 and even exceed 9 percent the year after.

स्पेन फुटबॉल का नया विश्व चैंपियन बना

यूरोपीयन चैम्पियन स्पेन की टीम ने सॉकर सिटी स्टेडियम में खेले गए खिताबी मुकाबले में हॉलैंड को 1-0 से हराकर फीफा विश्व कप का खिताब जीत लिया है।

स्पेन की टीम को स्ट्राइकर आंद्रेस इनिएस्ता ने अतिरिक्त समय (116वें मिनट) में किए गए ‘गोल्डन गोल’ की मदद से जीत दिलाई। स्पेन ने पहली बार विश्व कप जीता है जबकि हॉलैंड की टीम तीसरी बार खिताब से एक कदम दूर रह गई।

निर्धारित 90 मिनट में दोनों टीमें एक भी गोल नहीं कर सकीं थीं। इसके बाद मैच अतिरिक्त समय तक खिंचा। अतिरिक्त समय के पहले हॉफ में भी कोई गोल नहीं हुआ लेकिन दूसरे हॉफ में इनिएस्ता ने चेस्क फेब्रीगास के शानदार पास पर गोल करके अपनी टीम को विश्व चैम्पियन बना दिया।


पहली बार किसी यूरोपीय देश से बाहर दो यूरोपीय देशों के बीच खेले गए इस मैच के बाद विश्व फुटबॉल को आठवां चैम्पियन मिला। यह दूसरा मौका है जब किसी टीम ने यूरोपीयन चैम्पियन होने के साथ-साथ विश्व कप जीता है। इससे पहले 1974 में जर्मनी ने यह कारनामा किया था।

Miss United States, Alexandria Mills, has won the Miss World crown for 2010, defeating more than 100 other hopefuls at a glittering ceremony in southern China.

The blonde Mills, 18, wept as outgoing Miss World Kaiane Aldorino of Gibraltar placed the tiara on her head and led her to a diamond-shaped throne, in honour of the pageant's 60th anniversary.

Botswana's Emma Wareus was second, and Venezuela's Adriana Vasini placed third in the competition. The pageant was held in Sanya, China.

Indian beauty Manasvi Mamgai, who even failed to find a place in the top 20, danced to the classical number Dhai shyam rok lai from the 2002 film Devdas. The 22-year-old was dressed in a traditional Indian attire.

2010 Fifa World Cup: Spain are the Brand New Champions

Andres Iniesta struck deep into the second half extra time to give Spain their maiden World Cup title with a 1-0 victory over the Netherlands in a drama-filled summit clash here today.

Iniesta scored the winner in the 116th minute after both the sides were locked goal-less in the regulation 90 minutes in an ill-tempered grand finale which saw the ejection of Dutch defender John Heitinga in the 110th minute for his second booking and another 12 yellow cards being shown.

Former Lok Sabha Speaker Bali Ram Bhagat Dead



Veteran Congress leader and former Lok Sabha Speaker Bali Ram Bhagat died early this morning at a hospital here. He was 89.

Bhagat breathed his last at 2.30 AM at Apollo hospital where he was receiving treatment for kidney and lever ailments, an aide said.

Bhagat was elected Speaker of the fifth Lok Sabha on January 5, 1976 when the country was under Emergency. He remained in the post for a year.

Ram Naresh Yadav to be new Governor of MP

President Pratibha Patil Friday 26 August appointed former Andhra Pradesh chief minister K. Rosaiah as the new governor of Tamil Nadu in place of Surjit Singh Barnala, whose term is ending, according to a statement issued here.

The president asked Maharashtra Governor K. Sankaranarayanan to also take responsibility of Goa till his term ends. The term of S.S. Sidhu as Goa governor has ended.


Patil also transferred Jharkhand Governor M.O.H. Farook to Kerala and in his place Syed Ahmed has been appointed as the new Jharkhand governor, according to a Rashtrapati Bhavan communique.

While Ram Naresh Yadav has been appointed governor of Madhya Pradesh, Vakkom Purushothaman has been given charge of Mizoram.

Madhya Pradesh governor Rameshwar Thakur was not keeping well and Mizoram governor Lt. Gen. (Retd) M.M. Lakhera's term has ended.

Preliminary Examination Paper - I

The Examination shall comprise two compulsory papers of 200 marks each.
Paper I - (200 marks) Duration : Two hours
  • Current events of national and international importance.
  • History of India and Indian National Movement.
  • Indian and World Geography - Physical, Social, Economic Geography of
    India and the World.
  • Indian Polity and Governance - Constitution, Political System,
    Panchayati Raj, Public Policy, Rights Issues, etc.
  • Economic and Social Development -Sustainable Development, Poverty,
    Inclusion, Demographics, Social Sector initiatives, etc.
  • General issues on Environmental Ecology, Bio-diversity and Climate
    Change - that do not require subject specialisation
  • General Science.
Note 1 : Questions relating to English Language Comprehension skills of Class
X level (last item in the Syllabus of Paper- II) will be tested through passages
from

English language only without providing Hindi translation thereof in the
question paper.
Note 2 : The questions will be of multiple choice, objective type.
Note 3: It is mandatory for the candidate to appear in both the Papers of

Jagjit Singh passes away

Noted ghazal singer Jagjit Singh, who was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Lilavati hospital in Bandra last week due to brain hemorrhage, passed away this morning at 8.10 am. He was 70.

According to the spokesperson of Lilavati hospital, the singer was on all life support system and was suffering from high blood pressure, diabetes and Ischemic Heart Disease (IHD).

The singer had also undergone an emergency surgery to remove clots in his brain when he was brought to the hospital on September 23. He was scheduled to perform along side Pakistani ghaza singer Ghulam Ali at a concert at Shanmukhananda Hall when he suffered the hemorrhage.


Singh had had a history of heart ailments. In January 1998, he suffered a heart attack. In October 2007, he was hospitalised following blood circulation problems.

The singer is survived by wife Chitra Singh. The couple's only son Vivek had died in a car accident in the 1990s.

NDA Papers

National Defense Academy entrance exam is conducted by UPSC i.e. Union Public Service Commission. The exam is conducted twice a year, first in the month of April and other in the month of September. This exam is the only way through which a candidate can get admission to the courses in the Air Force, Army and Navy wings of the NDA. The courses generally start in the month of January and July respectively.
The candidates must have attained an age of 16 ½ years and must be blow 19 years on the 1st July or 1st January of the year of the succeeding examination year. A candidate must also be an unmarried male. The candidates must have passed class 12 examinations. However, candidates who will appear for the class 12 examination in the same year are also eligible to apply for the exam.
Examination Details

The examination consists of two papers, Mathematics and General Ability. Both the papers are of 2 ½ hours duration. The paper of Mathematics contains 300 marks questions whereas the paper on General Ability contains 600 marks questions. General Ability papers consists of two parts, Part A tests candidate’s English skills and part B covers General knowledge which include questions from Physics, Chemistry, Geography, General Science, History and current events.
Personality and Intelligence Test
Candidates who are selected through written exam are then called for Personality and Intelligence Test, both verbal and non-verbal. Candidates are also put to Group tests like group planning, group discussion and outdoor group tasks. They are also given a specified subject and are asked to give a brief lecture.
